Young Innovators Meet Science and Technology at the Republic STEM Robot Competition in Bishkek!
The Bishkek Science Center, in collaboration with the Innovation Center under the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic and Robooky Education Center, successfully organized the “Republic STEM Robot Competition.”
The event aimed to help children and young people develop their scientific thinking skills, gain hands-on experience in engineering and robotics, and become active producers of technology rather than passive consumers.
The opening ceremony was attended by Aybek Chotonov, Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic; Kürşad Dulkadir, Education Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Bishkek; and Mehmet Bodur, TİKA Kyrgyzstan Program Coordinator. During the ceremony, it was highlighted that the cooperation between Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan in science and technology continues to strengthen through collaborative educational projects and innovation-driven activities.
The competition gathered around 400 students and 50 teams from various regions of Kyrgyzstan. Participants aged between 7 and 17 competed with their self-built robots in categories such as Line Following, Football, Sumo, Drag Racing, and the traditional “Çükö Talamay (bone game)”. Each category focused on developing the participants’ abilities in coding, mechanical design, and sensor-based automation.
Throughout the event, students also showcased their original work in the STEM Projects category and tested their scientific knowledge in the STEM Quiz competition. Many of the presented projects focused on sustainable energy, smart city solutions, agricultural technologies, and environmental protection — areas that reflect the growing interest of young people in solving real-world challenges through innovation.
The Bishkek Science Center continues its mission under the Bilim Türkiye umbrella to make science and technology more accessible to children and young people in Kyrgyzstan. Through interactive workshops, educational programs, and competitions like this, the center aims to build creative learning environments that empower every child to experience science first-hand.
Events like the Republic STEM Robot Competition play a crucial role in identifying young talents, fostering international collaboration in education, and advancing the National Technology Initiative vision on a regional scale.
